SAFETY TIP
Toys are essential for a baby's development, but safety should always come first.
In 2023, the sale of "magnet sets" and "water-swelling balls" was banned. There were 11 reported incidents involving multiple magnets being accidentally swallowed, leading to cases where open surgery was required due to the magnets pinching the intestinal walls. Additionally, 4 incidents were reported where water-swelling balls expanded and required open surgery. 😿
To prevent accidents, make sure to choose toys from trusted sources.
Shop \Purchase from reputable stores\
It’s safer to buy from actual stores like department stores or major companies where you can verify the store's credibility.
TOY or Others \Determine if it’s a toy or a miscellaneous item before purchasing\
Differentiate between toys and miscellaneous items. Items like toy straps can be tricky. Even if a product is considered a toy, it might be sold as a miscellaneous item, so be cautious about items that can be put in the mouth.
Safety Mark \Check for safety marks such as ST Mark or CE Mark\
In Japan, food safety tests mainly cover material testing, and there are no mandatory standards for toys. Look for safety marks like the ST Mark or CE Mark, which indicate that the product has passed safety tests for design and heat resistance.
Play with \Always supervise playtime\
Children play in various ways and may start rolling over or standing up suddenly, so it is important to keep a close watch at all times.
